Met in 1895 with the Gaity Company when 24, married and top billing. Best known for their leading roles in J M Barrie?s Quality Street in 1902 when they moved to Merstham where they were very much part of the community. Spent longest time at The Old Forge, ?the dearest of them all? per Ellaline, by the gates to Merstham House. Hence redesignation of this cul-de-sac as Quality Street (?where all the quality live?).
With thanks to Alex Hunter, author of "20th Century Merstham".
